The Greater Bridgeport St. Patrick’s Day Celebration Committee announced the winners of the 2021 Mr. and Miss Shamrock Scholarship Program. They were selected among many applicants by a panel of judges of local educators. All winners are Fairfield residents, according to scholarship program organizer Colleen Sargent Murphy.
2021 Miss Shamrock Emily Larkin is an Easton CT senior at Joel Barlow High School. She is National Honor Society secretary on the Sikorsky STEM Challenge Team, tutors in math, mentors freshmen, and helps organize blood drives. While Emily celebrates St. Patrick for bringing Christianity to Ireland, she celebrates St. Brigid’s Day too as she lived near her shrine, Brigid of Faughart, when she lived in County Louth for four years. Her parents are Noreen and Charles Larkin. ☘☘
2021 Mr. Shamrock is Andrew Jones. Andrew is a student at Fairfield Warde High School. For years, Andrew played in St. Patrick’s Gaelic Football and Hurling Club and marched in our parade with his teammates. He is a Jr. Deacon at Greenfield Hill Congregational Church and has participated in their Appalachia service project for three years. During summer, he is a lifeguard. He is the son of Cheryl and Todd Jones. Andrew said this scholarship will help him pay for college. ☘☘
Miss Shamrock Runner Up is Catherine White of Town of Trumbull, a senior at Lauralton Hall, where she is National Honor Society and on the Varsity ski and swim teams. Catherine started Irish step dancing at age six with Lenihan School of Irish Dance at the Gaelic-American Club and has danced her way through many of our parades. She plans to attend Marist College and has applied for their Freshman Dublin Experience. Her parents are Elizabeth and Richard White. ☘☘
2021 Mr. Shamrock Runner Up is Ryan Carroll of Town of Trumbull. Ryan grew up attending our parade and once at Fairfield Prep marched with the Irish Cultural Club. At Prep, Ryan is Student Council President, National Honor Society, and a pitcher on the baseball team. He volunteers for the Challenger Division of Trumbull Little League. Ryan’s family is from Galway, where they were fishermen and had a special stitching pattern woven into their Knit Sweaters to identify them. His parents are Maggie and Sean Carroll. ☘☘
